THRILL SEEKERS ONLY

CATEGORIES TO CLAIM

THE SUB-ZERO RACE IS ALL ABOUT SETTING THE FASTEST TIME TO THE NORTH CAPE IN YOUR CATEGORY. IT'S NOT A ROAD RACE BUT ABOUT DRIVING AND PLANNING SMARTLY. TACTICAL DRIVING, A BIT OF LUCK, AND NOT BEING TOO BOTHERED BY THE COLD WEATHER.

Now, your team will be monitored, meaning your EV will be equipped with a tracking device so we can monitor your time and speed. This device is backed up by another registration system to ensure accurate timing. Your time is crucial to secure a place in the ranking and perhaps even break the record, provided you have also met all the conditions. Your team can secure a place in the following categories.

  • OVERALL CATEGORY
This category assesses the data collected across the entire field of participants. All participating EV brands are compared against each other. So the team that crosses the finish line in the shortest time possible takes the top position on this leaderboard. The competing EV's with less range are in a disadvantage but can still claim the lead position in one of their categories.

  • BRAND CATEGORY
This category assesses the data collected across the field of competing participants driving the same brand.

  • MODEL CATEGORY
This category assesses the data collected across the field of competing participants driving the exact same brand and model. This category probably turns out in the beginning as a not dense populated segment. Further down the road - as more editions have been driven - this category will show a more complete field of comparison.

  • BODY STYLE CATEGORY
This category assesses the data collected across the field of competing participants driving the exact same body style. This category contains the following sub-categories: a) hatchback, b) sedan, c) SUV, d) MPV, e) station/estate, f) cabriolet, g) coupe, h) small van and i) pickup truck.

  • BATTERY CATEGORY
    This category assesses the data collected across the field of competing participants driving within the same battery capacity range. This category contains the following sub-categories: a) 20-30kWh, b) 30-40kWh, c) 40-50kWh, d) 50-60kWh, e) 60-70kWh, f) 70-80kWh, g) 80-90kWh, h) 90-100kWh, i) 100-110kWh, j) 110-120kWh, k) 120-130kWh.

  • WLTP RANGE CATEGORY
    This category assesses the data collected across the field of competing participants driving within the same WLTP range. Are you the fastest team in your category? It concerns the following WLTP sub-categories: a) 100-150km, b) 150-200km, c) 200-250km, d) 250-300km, e) 300-350km, f) 350-400km, g) 400-450km, h) 450-500km, i) 500-550km, j) 550-600km, k) 600-650km, l) 650-700km.

  • OPEN CATEGORY
This category is exclusively reserved for student teams that have registered with their own developed EV for the Sub-Zero Race, and compete for the time record in this unique class.

For each category a ranking will be made and if you top your category your team goes go home with one or more of the following trophies:

🏆 SUB-ZERO / NORTH CAPE TROPHY

This trophy is the ultimate goal. If you claim the NORTH CAPE TROPHY in your category you rule and your EV has put down the best perfomance among all participants based on the data gathered over the full length of the route under extreme cold conditions.

🏆 SUB-ZERO / ARCTIC CIRCLE TROPHY

At some moment during the record attempt, all teams will cross the Arctic Circle (66° 33' north latitude). At that latitude, the travel time so far will be clocked, and an interim score will be made for the Arctic Circle Trophy in each category.
